Javier Urrutia is a global leader and advocate for the international startup ecosystem. He has spent the last two decades leading successful ventures in Latin America and is a recognized expert in foreign direct investment and investor relations. Javier is a trusted advisor to companies and investors in helping to anticipate, interpret, and respond to policy changes, especially in emerging markets.

Javier is a Senior Advisor at Humankind Capital focusing on deal sourcing, public-private financing, and business development.

Prior to Humankind Capital, Javier served as the Director of Foreign Direct Investment at PROCOLOMBIA as the liaison between the Colombian Government and U.S.-based companies and investors. Javier and his team facilitated over 140 investment projects in Colombia equivalent to USD$8.9 billion, and an additional pipeline of investment opportunities for USD$3.4 billion. Javier was an executive for Syngenta (Ciba Geigy/Novartis) for over ten years in Colombia and at their headquarters in Switzerland, where he assisted the entry or expansion into the LATAM and Southeast Asia (SEA) markets, and built strategic connections with government agencies, public entities, and private companies.

Javier is fluent in Spanish, English, and French, with working proficiency in Portuguese. He holds a BSc in Animal Science and Business Administration from Berry College and an AMP degree (Advanced Management Program) from IESE in Barcelona, Spain. He has extensive professional development credentials in business, marketing strategy, leadership, and entrepreneurship-related subjects at various Ivy League universities and INSEAD in France.
